Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about DriveTech AutoCare diagnostics, vehicle servicing, electrical repairs, bookings, pre-MOT checks, supported makes and the Greenford workshop.

These questions are designed to set realistic expectations before a workshop visit. Vehicle diagnosis can be simple or complex depending on the fault, and advanced electronic functions vary by make and model. The most useful booking combines accurate vehicle information with a plain-language description of what the driver has observed.

Questions about diagnostics

A diagnostic scan is useful because modern control modules store information about conditions they have detected, but a trouble code is not automatically a diagnosis. For example, a low-voltage event can create faults in several modules; a wiring problem can create a sensor-related code; and a module can report communication errors caused by a problem somewhere else on the network. A proper fault-finding plan uses the scan as evidence alongside supply checks, visual inspection, live data, circuit measurements or functional testing where appropriate.

Intermittent faults need particularly good customer information. If the problem is absent during the workshop visit, the conditions in which it normally appears become important. Note whether it happens on a cold start, after a long drive, in wet weather, when a particular feature is used or after the vehicle has been standing. A photograph of a warning message may preserve information that disappears after a restart. The booking form includes a message and optional photo field for this reason.

  • You do not need to diagnose the failed part before booking
  • A code should be interpreted in the context of the vehicle and symptom
  • Intermittent faults may require staged testing
  • Previous repair history can help prevent duplicated work

Questions about servicing, brakes and pre-MOT checks

Routine servicing and the statutory MOT have different purposes. Servicing is maintenance: it can include oil, filters, fluids and manufacturer-relevant checks according to the agreed scope. The MOT is a defined legal roadworthiness inspection carried out by an authorised testing station. A DriveTech pre-MOT check is preparation only; it can help identify obvious issues before the official test but it does not issue a certificate and cannot guarantee a pass.

Brake complaints should be treated according to severity. A light squeal or wear warning can still justify an inspection, while seriously reduced braking, a fluid leak, severe grinding or a critical red warning may make the car unsafe to drive. In that situation, arrange recovery rather than driving simply to keep an appointment. Similar caution applies to overheating or serious EV/high-voltage warnings. The booking website is a workshop contact tool, not an emergency-response service.

  • MOT and servicing are not the same service
  • Pre-MOT preparation is not an official MOT test
  • Safety-critical faults may require recovery
  • Service scope depends on the exact vehicle and history

Questions about makes, programming and electronic systems

DriveTech AutoCare promotes support for a broad range of makes and models. Routine mechanical and electrical work can often be handled across many brands, but specialist electronic procedures vary. ECU coding, immobiliser and key work, battery registration, module replacement, advanced driver-assistance functions and EV/hybrid procedures may depend on vehicle generation, hardware compatibility, security access or manufacturer systems. A responsible multi-brand garage confirms the individual task instead of promising universal access to every procedure.

For programming-related bookings, provide the VIN, registration and details of any replacement component. Used modules are not automatically compatible or programmable. Security-related work is only appropriate for legitimate owners or authorised users and may require proof of authority. EV and hybrid vehicles also contain high-voltage systems that require suitable procedures; the fact that a page offers EV/hybrid diagnostics does not mean every high-voltage repair is carried out in-house.

  • Send VIN and replacement-part information for coding requests
  • Bring all keys where authorised key/immobiliser work is requested
  • Do not assume a used ECU can always be coded
  • High-voltage work is confirmed against the exact task and vehicle

Questions about booking and visiting

The online booking page asks for customer contact details, vehicle make and model and a requested service. Additional fields cover address/location, post code, city, country, registration, VIN, a message and an optional issue image. Vehicle and service suggestions help reduce typing, and a DriveTech booking reference is created after a successful request so the workshop can review the information.

The workshop is in Greenford at Unit 6 Fleetway Business Park, 14-16 Wadsworth Road, UB6 7LD. Current opening hours are Monday to Friday 09:00–19:30 and Saturday 11:00–18:00, with Sunday shown as closed. Customers from surrounding West London areas are welcome to book, but specialist procedures should be confirmed before making a dedicated journey.

Planning a visit to DriveTech AutoCare

Our workshop address is Unit 6 Fleetway Business Park, 14-16 Wadsworth Road, Greenford, Middlesex, UB6 7LD. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 19:30 and Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00, with Sunday closed. If you are travelling for a specialist electronic, programming, security or EV/hybrid procedure, contact us first with the exact vehicle details so the practical scope can be confirmed.

The online booking form is the most structured way to send information. It asks for your name and contact details, location information, make and model, registration, optional VIN, required service and a message. It also accepts an optional issue photograph in supported image formats. After a successful submission, the customer receives a DriveTech reference so the workshop can review the request and follow up if anything needs clarification.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Many complaints can be investigated from symptoms even when no dashboard warning is present. The test plan depends on the system involved.

It can. Low voltage can affect multiple electronic modules, which is why battery and supply condition may be checked when relevant.

The website advertises pre-MOT checks, not an official MOT test. The statutory MOT must be completed by an authorised testing station.

No workshop should assume every module is universally programmable. Support depends on vehicle, module, security access and tooling.

Describe the symptom, when it occurs, exact warnings and any recent repairs. That is often more useful than guessing which part has failed.
